Udaipur World Music Festival Cancelled To Pay Tribute to Pulwama Soldiers

As soon as news broke of one of the deadliest terror attack on Indian soldiers at Pulwama yesterday, the whole nation went into a state of shock.

At least 44 soldiers lost their lives in a high intensity car bombing attack in Indian-controlled Kashmir region.

Generally it's the government, institutions and organizations that organise condolence meets and offer tribute to the victims. But yesterday's incident moved all citizens.

When the news broke, a few of my friends were so upset that they even found it difficult to continue their conversation with me and apologized that they need time to regain their mental stability. Everyone is extremely upset with what has happened.

Many citizens organized gatherings to pay tribute to the martyrs. A popular (and largest) Facebook group of my city changed its cover picture to black. The group also decided to keep zero activity in the group for 12 hours tomorrow to express their grief & distress. Several people have donated money for the families of the martyrs.

Everyone is expressing their tribute in their own way.

I'm also not writing anything today except this information about the UWMF 2019 schedule as many people from outside visit Udaipur for this festival only.

Actually. today was the inaugural day for Udaipur World Music Festival 2019 - India's biggest world music extravaganza. Every year around this time, this festival is held for 3 days in Udaipur. This year it was scheduled between 15^th to 17^th February.

Since everyone was in a state of grief and sorrow, obviously, it wasn't a time for any celebration. So all plans for this event were cancelled for the first day. Instead a tribute meeting was organized in the evening at 7 pm today. Artist Shashank Subramanyam played his flute to pay tribute to the martyrs.

I've heard that last rituals of martyrs are scheduled for tomorrow. So there is a possibility for rescheduling of tomorrow's events too. Please check with the organisers before visiting it.
