Thanks to the animal rights movement, vegan trend is catching up fast around the world. And this is that time of the year when most people look forward to take steps with strong resolutions to something better.
But I wasn't expecting this from a Government arm. Yesterday, Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India's official twitter handle asked people to go vegan by quitting dairy & meat. It also linked a recent article on Veganuary published in a leading media viz. Economic Times.
Yes, India has a dedicated Ministry for promoting Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy branches of alternative medicine since 2014.
But vegan advocacy didn't go well with many of its followers as India is very obsessed with dairy consumption and can't even think beyond that. However there was quite a support for quitting meat but a severe backlash on asking to quit dairy. So much that ministry had to take down its tweet after a few hours.
Modi's 56 inch chest isn't enough to make India dairy-free.
