Hey friends!
A very happy Earth Day to you all!
Earth Day is celebrated worldwide on 22nd April every year since 1970 though it got popular only after 1990s to demonstrate support for environmental protection. At some places it is celebrated as Earth Week for an entire week with numerous activities to focus on the serious environment issues that our world is facing today.
On this occasion of the Earth Day, STEEM & EOS co-founder Dan Larimer posted a very disappointing tweet with these words followed by the picture below:
The #science is settled.
Of course, there had always been some contradictory assessments, inaccurate predictions with some over-statements in the past. Therefore, according to Dan, it's wrong to call it a "Science"
However, here Dan was trying to prove something about the inappropriate use of the word "Science" and perhaps it had something to do with his rival Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson's comments. Dan had already tweeted a couple of days ago:
What passes as “science” today is non-reproducible “studies” based on strawman models of how the world works. Calling #blockchain engineering “#science” is further proof that the word has lost any objective meaning and is now primarily an appeal to authority. #cardano #ethereum.
So the Earth Day tweet was a mere continuation of it. However Earth Day was not a good opportunity to express it and several people got disappointed with this tweet.
Today about 193 countries are celebrating Earth Day and doing their best to mitigate climate change and protect the Earth's environment.
The theme of Earth Day 2019 is "Protect Our Species".
Since the word "species" is used for both singular as well as plural, this theme doesn't mean protecting only our human species; but to protect all species, whether of animal kingdom or plant kingdom.
Web search engine Google displayed a very beautiful, interactive and animated slide show as its today's doodle. Designed and created by doodler Kevin Laughlin, he cherry picked six awe-inspiring organisms that inhibit our planet Earth.
These unique creatures blessed with astonishing features include:
(i) a bird with the widest wing span of any living species,
(ii) the tallest tree in the world,
(iii) world's smallest vertebrate and also the world's smallest frog,
(iv) one of the largest aquatic plants,
(v) A 407 million years old, one of the world's oldest living species and
(vi) world's deepest-dwelling terrestrial creature.
I'm not posting any of these pictures here as I want you to give a look at the beautiful animation in the slideshow and spare a moment to think about the treasure house our world is!

Wishing you all a happy Earth Day again!
