Busy & SteemConnect Founder Becomes Obyte Witness. Will You Vote for Him?

Hey friends!

STEEM has been my first cryptocurrency and an entry door to the world of blockchain technology. Thanks to STEEM, today I own several crypto currencies.

I've been on Steem platform for about couple of years now. That means I'm in the world of blockchain for that long. Still I don't understand much about blockchain and many other new technologies and projects based on them. I'm a slow learner but am trying.

Do you vote for a Witness?

Because of STEEM, I never had to invest a single penny in any blockchain based tokens. STEEM has paid for everything. It was because of this platform I came across Bitshares, EOS and airdrop of Byteball (now called Obyte). But since I don't have any significant holding in any, I never devoted any time in figuring out their witness system and voting on witnesses, referendum etc.

On Steem, we do know and interact with several people some of whom are Witnesses here. So I just used to put my Witness vote to anyone with whom I felt comfortable with or I somewhat admire that person. But I've never given a serious thought for whom should I vote as my Witness.

Initially, I was considering to make someone my proxy but as a newbie here, choosing a proxy was also something I couldn't do. So I just postponed my decision to vote. Later on, I gave some vote on the basis of my learning on this platform.

I also voted some communities and projects that I was part of. But I'm very lazy in renewing my decision to change my vote or to add someone new. Even today, one of my Witness votes goes to now defunct @utopian-io. Who cares!

How to choose a Witness for blockchains other than Steem?

Whenever I invested into other blockchain projects, it was difficult to figure out whom to vote for. On Steem it's very easy to know people and we can make a personal connection. But it's not the same on every blockchain.

But it's interesting to note that you can always find someone known to you from Steem on other blockchains too. It's a small crypto community in the world today.

When I wanted to vote for a Block Producer on EOS blockchain, I found several people from Steem community there too. I, however, didn't want to invest too much time in making a decision. So I chose @lukestokes as my proxy there. He takes care of my voting job well, I can really trust that guy for it.

But I don't know why I never considered voting for anyone on Bitshares and Tron platforms. I'd certainly like to vote for someone on Iotex blockchain but I'm really clueless for whom should I go for. If you can vouch for anyone from Steem community for IoTeX, please feel free for it.

@fabien becomes the second witness on Obyte

Busy and SteemConnect co-founder Fabien Merino has became the second Witness on Obyte DAG. There was only one Witness on Obyte so far, namely Rogier Eijkelhof. But I didn't know him and didn't took any effort to find about him. Not choosing to vote was an easier decision. Obyte has a system where hub can auto-update the Witness list and I was okay with that.

But now, when @fabien is running a Witness node, it didn't take me any time to decide in favour of voting him as my Witness.

Here's his Witness pledge, in case you're interested.

How to vote Fabien on Obyte

Choosing and voting your Witness on Obyte is the most difficult process that I ever came across. It's not that you can pick up someone from a list but you need to insert the exact address for your Witness and it's not necessarily a vanity address. Here's the exact process:

To do so, open your Obyte wallet, click on the menu icon, go to settings and under “TRUSTED NODES” click on “Witnesses”

Then flip the switch to disable auto-update from hub and click on the following address:

S7N5FE42F6ONPNDQLCF64E2MGFYKQR2I (explorer)

Replace it with Fabien’s witness address, which is:

FAB6TH7IRAVHDLK2AAWY5YBE6CEBUACF

or watch this on a video:

But only video may not help as you will actually need to copy paste the address FAB6TH7IRAVHDLK2AAWY5YBE6CEBUACF.

Very complicated for me. But I voted him anyhow.

  • Would you vote someone on Obyte with such a process?
