Do free booze entice you to attend a meetup or a workshop?

First ever EOS Meetup in India

This is the first ever Indian EOS meetup. What drew my attention towards it is that they are offering free beer & pizzas to all attendees!

Therefore this question sprung up in my mind - "do all or most developers are alcohol friendly?"

Here I'd like to state that I haven't seen this announcement anywhere on official Murmur accounts but the following tweet from its founder made me think this:

Beer is largely a Western culture. In India, 85% of the alcohol sold isn't beer but some strong alcoholic drinks like wines & spirits. And among beers too, 83% of beer sold is strong beer (containing upto 8% alcohol ABV). So it's clear that Indians drink to get drunk.

Who drinks beer for taste?

Almost everyone consumes it for a kick. And what if it's for free?

In India, beer is costlier than hard drinks like rum and whiskey. This could be other reason why drinkers prefer them over beer.

Whatever the case, alcohol isn't culturally acceptable in India. However it's true that metro cities like Bengaluru has emerged as pub capital of India. Still per capita consumption of beer here is one of the lowest in the world.

It may sound a little difficult to believe for some but beer is said to be more dangerous than other alcoholic drinks. No, I ain't referring to beer bellies; a PubMed research paper puts it better:

Hazardous beer consumption is more predictive of alcohol-related problems than hazardous consumption of wine or spirits.

Alcohol has an adverse impact on mind and overpowers it, restricting its normal functioning.

I believed dapp developers are very sharp minded people and would always like to protect this valuable asset they are gifted with. Then why would they like to surrender their mind to alcohol?
