A Photo Post on International Day of Families

Today is International Family Day. But how do you define a family?

In India, it's famously defined as Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam (whole world is my family).

India had a culture of large joint families living together including great grand parents, grand parents and their siblings, parents & their siblings, their cousins, children and grand children and more. My ancestral family house was like a whole colony in itself.

Even today, on the occasion of marriage ceremonies over 1000 people are invited to the function. But with time, large families are being reduced to ultra-nuclear families.

I've gathered up some family photographs from various sources to represent this change over a period of last century or so:

Sadly, smart phones are our children now!

If we keep weakening our family bonding, how can we ever accomplish the concept of Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam?
